: Data used in the present study were collected from the Norwegian Myocardial Infarction Register, and registration of all cases of AMI in Norway in this registry is mandatory and does not require informed consent. The Norwegian Myocardial Infarction Register is part of the National Register of Cardiovascular Diseases and is authorized in the Sect. 11 h of the Norwegian Health Register Act. The study was approved by the Institutional Review Board of Diakonhjemmet Hospital and the data privacy representative for Diakonhjemmet Hospital, and all methods were in accordance with the ethical standards of the institution and with the 1964 Helsinki Declaration and its later amendments or comparable ethical standards.
