: The University of Essex Ethics Committee has approved all data collection on Understanding Society main study and innovation panel waves. The specific data collection for this paper was approved by a REC ‘Understanding Society Health Innovation Panel: Biomeasure and health data collection from the Innovation Panel of the UK Household Longitudinal Study’ was approved by East of England—Essex Research Ethics Committee, Ref 19/EE/0146, 18<sup>th</sup> June 2019. All procedures have been performed in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki and within ESRC’s Framework for Research Ethics. Informed consent was sought at two stages: for the overall interview (assumed by taking part) and for providing blood samples (written consent form).
