: This manuscript conforms to the ICMJE Recommendations for the Conduct, Reporting, Editing, and Publication of Scholarly Work in Medical Journals. All methods were carried in accordance with relevant guidelines and regulations. The original ROBOT-ACS study was registered with the research department of each of the participating 6 hospitals Each hospital granted consent to undertake this study. Research ethics approval was also gained (National Research Ethics Service Committee Northwest, REC reference:14/NW/1326). In view of the requirement to obtain identifiable data without explicit patient consent, approval was secured from the Health Research Authority Confidential Advisory Group (CAG, ref: 15/CAG/0134). This body grants exemption from patient consent for research studies in the UK when not feasible. This allowed access to data from any national hospital in England. The protocol was also produced in conjunction with and approved by a regional patient advocacy group (SURE group, Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital). As part of the HRA-CAG approval conditions we advertised the study in all GP surgeries and hospital A&E departments in the region and offered an opt out to patients in the event they did not wish their data to be used. We received no such requests.
: Not applicable. HRA-CAG approval for original ROBOT-ACS study. This sub study does not include any identifiable data.
