Ethics approval and consent to participate
: This study was performed according to the code of conduct for health research, which has been approved by the data protection authorities for conformity with the applicable Dutch privacy legislation. According to the Central Committee on Research involving Human Subjects (CCMO), this type of study does not require approval from an ethics committee in the Netherlands. All patients voluntarily agreed on WBC. Patient records were anonymous and patients could not subsequently be identified or contacted. When the GP gave oral consent the WBC service was installed and incorporated in the existing Dutch electronic referral system. Patients gave oral consent by agreeing the use of the WBC service in patient care. The study included no recommendations regarding the diagnostics or treatment of the patients.
