Ethics approval and consent to participate: According to the national Danish Research Ethics Committee, qualitative interview studies do not require ethical approval, but the study adhered to the Declaration of Helsinki in its latest form. We adhered to standard ethical principles as described by Kvale and Brinkmann [ ]. The study was registered in the University of Copenhagen’s database, Project Like Mine, which ensures compliance with GDPR requirements for the safe conduct of research within the university. All participants received both oral and written information prior to the interviews. Each participant signed a written consent form.

Consent for publication: Written informed consent for publication of the interview data was obtained from all participants. Copies of the consent forms can be provided on request.

Competing interests: Allergica A/S, in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen, has primarily funded the salary of the PhD student who is the first author of this publication. The study is part of a PhD project. The company has not been involved at any stage in the conduct of the manuscript, regarding design, data collection, data analysis, data interpretation, or in any decisions related to its execution or the writing process.A full declaration statement is provided in the ‘Related files’.

Declaration of generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in the manuscript preparation process: During the preparation of this work, the author used Microsoft 365’s AI-assistant Copilot to refine wording and assist with synonyms.
