: In this study, informed consent was obtained as follows: a questionnaire was sent via mail with an explanation of the study. The participants read the written explanation of the purpose of the study and either consented to participate in the study or did not. The JAGES protocol in 2016 was approved by the ethics committee of the National Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology (No. 992) and the ethics committee of Chiba University (No. 2493). The JAGES protocol in 2019 was approved by the JAGES Committee (no. 2019–01), the National Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology (no. 1274–2), and the Chiba University Ethics Committee (no. 3442). This study was conducted according to the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki. Informed consent was obtained from all participants. The STROBE statement to report this observational study was followed.
