: Each wave of SHARE was revised and approved by an ethics committee. This includes ethics issues of the survey itself as well as data protection regulations. In our study, we use SHARE wave 8 which was approved by the ethics board of Max-Planck-Society (Germany). Information and documentation on the ethics approval is available on the SHARE website (see FAQ Sect. 3.11 ExternalRef removed.The SHARE study is subject to continuous ethics review. During Waves 1 to 4, SHARE was reviewed and approved by the Ethics Committee of the University of Mannheim. Wave 4 and the continuation of the project were reviewed and approved by the Ethics Council of the Max Planck Society. In addition, the country implementations of SHARE were reviewed and approved by the respective ethics committees or institutional review boards whenever this was required. The numerous reviews covered all aspects of the SHARE study, including sub-projects and confirmed the project to be compliant with the relevant legal norms and that the project and its procedures agree with international ethical standards.
