: The Western Sydney University Human Research Ethics Committee (ref: 9468) approved this research project. A parallel group, cluster RCT was undertaken in self-care retirement villages (clusters) around Sydney, Australia, between October 2012 and November 2014, and written informed consent was obtained for each participant prior to data collection. The trial was registered prior to commencement with the Australian New Zealand Clinical Trials Registry (ACTRN12612000889853) on 21.08.2012 and updated on 16.11.2015.
