: This study is part of two ongoing projects: Living with dementia: Social relational perspective to sustainable care (SOREMO) and On the threshold of social death . The ethical approvals to data collection were received from Helsinki University’s human research committee (5/2020, for participants with dementia who received care in a care facility) and The Human Sciences Ethics Committee of the University of Jyväskylä (ethical review 498/13.00.04.00/2023, for persons with dementia living at home). The study was carried out in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki. The study participants received oral and written information prior to their inclusion in the study. The participants were informed about the aim of the study, received practical information concerning participation, and were informed that they could withdraw from participation without consequences at any time. Written consent was obtained from all study participants, and anonymity and confidentiality were assured.
