: The study was conducted in accordance with the ethical principles for medical research involving human participants as stated in the Declaration of Helsinki. It was approved by the Ethics Committee of the German Society for Nursing Science (No. 22–035) and complies with all relevant data protection guidelines. Participation in this study was voluntary, all participants received verbal and written information about the study and provided written informed consent. For people with dementia, separate shortened and simplified study documents were provided and checked for comprehensibility and appropriateness by an employee of the German Alzheimer’s Association. The interviews with people with dementia were conducted by a postdoctoral researcher experienced with dementia care research. Both current and ongoing consent were obtained for the interviews.
