Ethics approval and consent to participate
: Ethical clearance was obtained from ethical review committee of Jimma University and College of Public health and medical sciences. Permission to conduct the study was obtained from JUSH. Purpose and objectives of the study was explained to respective head in the department and the clinical director. After informing patients about the objective of the study and the confidentiality of the data, informed consent was obtained from study subjects before inclusion into the study. To ensure confidentiality of data, study subjects were identified using codes and unauthorized persons had no access to the collected data, information obtained from interview, and/or chart review. Patients received standard treatment for HIV and co-morbid conditions regardless of whether they consented to study enrollment. Blood was drawn from clients using standard universal precautions of sample collection. The hematologic and immunologic findings were attached to the patient card and were utilized for proper management of the patients.
