: Ethical clearance was obtained from IRB (Institute Review Board) of Hawassa University College of Medicine and Health Sciences. Initially, verbal consent was obtained from all patients visiting the laboratory for CBC regardless of their HGB result. Anemic patients’ data was collected from hematology analyzer after the patients have left the OPDs of the Referral hospital. It was not convenient to find the patients as they left the hospital after treatment, which the ethics committee approved this form of consent. The study included adult men and women who were more than 15 years of age and hence the patients were directly requested for consent. Moreover, additional support was sought from the laboratory management of Hawassa University Referral hospital.
