Ethics approval and consent to participate
: The study was approved by the Research Review Committee (RRC) and Ethical Review Committee (ERC) of the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b) (PR-2006-011). A written informed consent was taken from all the study participants individually before enrollment. A parental written informed consent including ascent from the participants was also obtained for those patients who were less than 18 years of age. Data were handled confidentially and processed and presented anonymously. Patients could withdraw from the study at any point in the study period without giving any reason and without suffering any negative effect on their further treatment.
