Ethics approval and consent to participate

: Ethical approval for the study was obtained from the Makerere University College of Health Sciences School of Medicine Research Ethics Committee. Written informed consent was obtained from eligible mothers and health workers who agreed to participate in the study. Parental consent was not required for participant mothers under 18 years of age as they were emancipated minors. For purposes of confidentiality only study specific serial numbers were used in data entry and analysis and the data was only accessible to the research team.
