: The study protocols were reviewed and approved by the Ethical Review Committee of Wolkite University (Ref.No.WR 5669/32/09). Letters of permission was obtained from Guragea Zone Health Department and each Woredas’ Health Office. The objective as well as the nature of the study was explained to the participant and written informed consent was obtained from each participant or their guardians for patient younger than 18 years. Those patients who didn’t respond to the therapeutic dose of chloroquine were re-treated with quinine as recommended by national guideline [CitationRef removed].
