: Ethical clearance was approved by the joint scientific and ethical review board of the BMC and CUHAS under certificate number CREC/151/2014.Eligible patients were informed about the background of the study and given detailed information about the purpose, possible benefits and possible adverse effects before being enrolled into the study. All possible hazards and procedures were explained. Patient and the midwife give written informed consent statement. Patients were provided with a copy of the signed informed consent and were able to withdraw from the study at any time. Informed consent and questionnaires were written in Kiswahili. The trial was registered under ClinicalTrials.gov with the number NCT04325542.
