Ethics approval and consent to participate
: All three study sites (COMRU, SMRU and LOMWRU) are part of the Oxford Tropical Network and the study was approved by the Oxford Tropical Ethics Committee (OxTREC reference number 35–17). In addition, the Angkor Hospital for Children’s Research Committee approved the study (Reference number 1236/18AHC). Local ethical approval was not obtained in Thailand and Laos, as the study was deemed to be of low risk and human volunteers were restricted to staff members. All human volunteers in this study provided written informed consent.
