Ethics approval and consent to participate
: Protocol and all study materials were approved by the University of Pittsburgh IRB #PRO11020500, the University of Florida IRB #IRB201701941, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention IRB #IRB00000319, the University of Liverpool Research Ethics Committee, and the Research Ethics Committee of the Faculty of Health and Medicine at Lancaster University. Investigators provided students and parents a summary of the study, including a disclosure form and a signature section for opting out of participation. As recommended by the IRB’s that reviewed and approved the study, parents did not individually provide consent for children to participate (i.e. A waiver of consent was received). All parents received information sheets ahead of the study period, offering them the option to withdraw their child from the study. All participating children gave verbal assent prior to swabbing and interviewing.
