: The current study was approved by the Senegalese National Ethics Committee (reference No. 000073/MSAS/DPRS/CNERS) and received administrative authorisation from the Directorate of Planning, Research and Statistics/MSAS (reference: 392//MSAS/DPRS/DR) and the academic inspection authorities in the Saint-Louis region (reference: 834/IA/SG/SEPA/oc). The objectives of the study were explained to the administrative and health authorities before starting the study. In each village, community meetings to explain the study took place in the presence of the local nurse, the chief of the village, the director of the school, community representatives, and the parents or legal guardians of the children. Before subjects were selected, written informed consent was obtained from their parents or legal guardians.
