: Ethical approval for the study was obtained from the Scientific Ethical Review Committee (SERU) of Kenya Medical Research Institute (No. KEMRI/SERU/CMR/P00155/4195). A research license, NACOSTI/P/21/12,323, was obtained from the National Commission for Science, Technology, and Innovation (NACOSTI). Informed consent to collect stool samples from children (participants) was obtained from the parents and guardians before recruiting the participants for the study, and no penalties for those who declined to participate. A unique study identification number and barcode label was applied to the sample immediately after collection for anonymity, and the information collected was confidential. All the methods and procedures carried out in this study were in accordance with the Helsinki Declaration.
