: The study was approved by The Gambia Government/Medical Research Council Unit, The Gambia Joint Ethics Committee, and the Ethics Committee at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). Study mothers signed informed consent during their antenatal care visits at the study health facilities and were only enrolled in the trial if they presented to the study health facilities in established labor having fulfilled all of the inclusion and none of the exclusion criteria []. The trial was registered at ClinicalTrials.gov: NCT03199547 (Registered June 27 2017). The research was conducted in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki.
