: Study approval was obtained from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital Institutional Review Board (KATH IRB). The reference number is KATH IRB/AP/147/20. We obtained permission from the Internal Medicine Directorate, KATH and the Transfusion Medicine Unit. Enrolment into the study was done after each participant had been informed and consented to the study by signing or thumbprinting. This process was approved by KATH IRB. The methods followed were as instituted by the KATH IRB relevant guidelines and regulations.
