Ethical approval for this study was obtained from the relevant committees in Nepal (Institutional Review Committee of BPKIHS IRC/2450/023, Dharan, and from the National Health Research Council, Kathmandu 45/2023P) and Belgium ((Institutional Review Board of the Institute of Tropical Medicine (ref: 1637/22, 25 November 2022), Ethics Committee of the University of Antwerp Hospital in Antwerp (Project ID: 5161, 6 March 2023)). Written informed consent was obtained from all participants involved in the study. The consent of a parent or legal guardian was obtained from any participant who was under the age of 18. In the event of illiterate participants/legal representative, a thumbprint and the signature of a neutral witness were used. All data were pseudonymized with the use of a sample ID.
