: The study was duly approved by the ICMR-RMRIMS, (Rajendra Memorial Research Institute of Medical Sciences), Ethics Committee (vide no-RMRI/EC/43/2020 18/12/2020), and the Scientific Advisory Committee, Patna. Before retrieving the line list of VL-HIV co-infected patients of the Bihar state, written consent was obtained from the national as well as state VBD program office. The institute team obtained written informed consent from all participants before interviews. In the case of dead VL-HIV patients, written consent was obtained from their parents or guardians. The respondents were assured of the confidentiality of their information. All participants were provided INR 1000 to compensate for the loss of wage for the participant. Participant data were anonymized before analysis. Confidentiality was maintained in full compliance with the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki (as amended in Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Somerset West, South Africa).
