: A written informed consent was obtained from the adult individual who met the eligibility criteria and agreed to participate in the study. For the children aged 5–10 years, consent was obtained from the parents or legal guardian and in the case of children between 11 and 17 years in addition to written informed consent, assent was also obtained. The study protocol was reviewed and approved by the Ethical Review Committee of International Center for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr, b), adhering to the principles stated in the Declaration of Helsinki (Ethical Principles for Medical Research Involving Human Subjects).
