: Ethical clearance was obtained from the College of Medicine and Health Sciences ethical review committee, Bahir Dar University (Ref. No: PGRCSVD/149/2011). A permission letter was obtained from the Amhara Public Health Institute. Furthermore, written informed consent from the parents and assent from each study participant were obtained prior to data collection. All methods were carried out in accordance with relevant guidelines and regulations (Declaration of Helsinki). Confidentiality of the collected information and laboratory test results were maintained. Any intestinal parasitic infection was communicated to nearby health centers for treatment.
