: The protocol for this study was reviewed and approved by the Comité Institutionnel d’Éthique pour la Recherche en Santé of the Centre de Recherche Entomologique de Cotonou (CIERS-CREC) (Ethical Approval No. 06–28/CREC/CIERS-CREC/SG). Informed consent was obtained from the mosquito collectors, household heads, and village chiefs before the start of the activities, in accordance with the ethical principles outlined in the Declaration of Helsinki. They were informed about the objectives of the study and gave their informed consent. All the mosquito sampling volunteers received a single 100 mg dose of doxycycline in the morning prior to the start of the evening collections. They continued the prophylactic regimen daily for four days following the completion of the mosquito sampling. The patients were medically screened and received curative treatment in case of illness. All the mosquito collectors were trained before the start of the activities.
