: The study protocol was approved by the Research Ethics Board of the Dirección Regional de Salud de Cajamarca , Peru (No document: MAD 08547925. The samples were obtained in the context of the epidemiological/syndromic surveillance program for acute febrile illness, according to the health directives of the National Center for Epidemiology, Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health of Peru. All participants gave their consent to participate in the study, informed consent was obtained from all participants, and the study procedures adhered to the Declaration of Helsinki. All procedures were performed under the international ethics guidelines for research in human healthcare issued by the Council for International Organizations of Medical Sciences (CIOMS) and the World Health Organization (WHO).
