: Ethical clearance for the study was obtained from the Institutional Review Board of the University of Bamenda (No.2024/0628H/UBa/IRB). Administrative authorisations were also granted by the Regional Delegation of Public Health and the District Medical Officer (DMO) of Bafut Health District. Before data collection, these approvals were presented to the Chiefs of Centres (COCs) of the selected health facilities. Before recruitment, study procedures were explained to participants in both English and the Bafut dialect by laboratory technicians or other trained staff fluent in the local language. Written informed consent was obtained from all respondents, either by signature or thumbprint, after a detailed explanation of the study’s nature and objectives. Participation was entirely voluntary. Data collected was treated with strict confidentiality and stored on password-protected computers. All participants were handled per the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki on the ethical use of humans in biomedical research.
