: The protocol for this research project was reviewed and approved by the Institutional Review Board of Ethio-victory College, Debre Berhan Branch with Reference Number: EV/IRB/123/2025. Informed consents were obtained from all participating individuals. The objectives, processes, possible hazards, and benefits of the research were clearly described to each participating individual using the local language, Amharic. It was made clear to each individual that participation was voluntary; hence they were free to withdraw from the study anytime during the process without any consequence on the medical attention they receive. Each of the participants gave written consent before sputum collection and analysis using GeneXpert. Those participants who were not able to read or write had their consent form read to them in the presence of an unbiased witness, and then they marked their consent with a thumb print instead of a signature.
