: The protocol was revised by the Swedish Ethical Review Authority and the study was waived ethical approval (approval number 2021–05109). The study was performed in accordance with relevant guidelines and regulations. No sensitive health data were collected. All data collected were general information about clinical practice for AF screening at the stroke unit. Participation in the survey was voluntary. Invitation to participate in the survey was sent with the Swedish stroke register as one of the senders. The cover letter informed the recipients that the survey was done to facilitate the planning of a national multicenter register based randomised controlled trial about AF screening after ischemic stroke or TIA (AF-SPICE, Atrial Fibrillation Screening Post Ischemic Cerebrovascular Events). Recipients were also informed that the results may be presented and published (without risk for identification of individual stroke units). The need for informed consent was waived by the Swedish Ethical Review Authority.
