: The study was conducted according to the guidelines of the Declaration of Helsinki. The research protocol was approved by the University Hospital Research Ethics Committee, Limerick, Ireland which also provided approval to undertake the research. This approval was based on ethical principles including beneficence/non-maleficence, justice, and autonomy. Consistent with ethical standards, participants were informed of the nature of the study, the researcher’s responsibilities, and their right to decline to partake in the study or withdraw at any time without risk of incurring penalties or prejudicial treatment. All participants provided informed, written consent to participate in the interviews. Research methods were conducted with reference to relevant regulations and study reporting was informed by COREQ guidelines (Additional file ).
