Ethics approval and consent to participate
: Oversight of research in Uganda involving human subjects requires two levels of approval: (1) approval is required at the organizational level by Mildmay Research Ethics Committee and (2) approval is required at the national level by the Uganda National Council for Science and Technology in collaboration with the Uganda National Health Research Organization. Both levels were obtained, alongside full review by the Harvard School of Public Health Institutional Review Board and exemption from review by University College Dublin. All participating health care workers and patients provided written informed consent.
