: The Mpilo Central Hospital Ethics Committee gave a waiver for all retrospective studies at the institution from 2016 onwards. Minutes of the Committee’s inaugural meeting held on the 13<sup>th</sup> October 2016 set out the requirements of all the studies at the institution. No ethical issues arose during the study as all the data remained anonymous with no identifying personal data. Therefore, there was no need for consent.
