: Ethical approval for the study was obtained from the Ghana Health Service Ethics Committee (GHS-ERC003/06/20). Permission was granted by the Greater Accra Regional Director of Health Services and the medical directors of the Greater Accra and Tema General hospitals prior to data collection. Written informed consent was obtained from the mothers. Participants were assured of confidentiality and informed that their participation was voluntary and that they could withdraw consent and discontinue participation at any time without it affecting the care they received. All methods were carried out in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki.
