: In our study secondary data from the AHS2018 were used, therefore, for us it was not required to obtain an ethical approval. For the AHS2018, the ethical approval was obtained from the Institutional Review Board of the Ministry of Public Health of Afghanistan in August 2017, with further amendments in January 2018. During the survey, field protocols contained appropriate interview techniques incorporating all ethical protocols, including informed consent for the interviews. The interviewees were informed that their participation in the survey was completely voluntary, and that they could withdraw at any time during the interview if they chose to withdraw. An informed consent statement was read out to the participant, and verbal consent was obtained to proceed the interviews.
