: Ethical clearance for this study was obtained from MUST Ethics Review Committee (Registration number: MUST-2022-359), and the Uganda National Council of Science and Technology (Registration number: HS229ES) before conducting the study. Additionally, administrative clearance was obtained from the office of the Hospital Director of MRRH. Written informed consent for involvement in the study was obtained from all the study participants. Participants’ confidentiality was ensured through use of unique identifiers rather than names and data were entered in Redcap, which was password protected. Mothers who had lost their babies and were unable to respond to the questionnaire due to grief were linked to a counsellor stationed on maternity ward and then revisited after 24 h while on the ward. Participant recruitment, informed consent process, data collection, and confidentiality measures were all conducted in accordance with the ethical principles outlined in the Helsinki Declaration.
