: Ethics exemption (or ethics waiver) was approved by the Deakin University Human Ethics Research Committee (DUHERC 2022-091) and The NSW Cancer Registry (ID 2022/ETH01850) for the analysis of aggregated level data which indicated that our research meets the criteria for exemption from ethical review in accordance with the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research Sect. 5.1.2. These include (1) the research activities meeting the definition for negligible risk research as defined in the National Statement Sect. 2.1.7; and (2) the analysis involving only the use of pre-existing collection of non-identifiable data about human beings. In addition, we request access to existing, anonymous aggregated electronic registry records that were routinely collected for monitoring and research purposes and are bound by the privacy principles as set out in the Australian Health Records Act, 2001, the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014, and the Freedom of Information Act 1982. Accordingly, we did not seek written informed consent from participants. Instead, consent to use the pre-collected existing dataset was obtained from the Cancer Registries - the legal data custodian of data held in the Australian Cancer Database and associate Human Ethics Research Committees. Permission to use was obtained and approved by the data custodians. All methods were carried out in accordance with the above-listed relevant guidelines and regulations.
