: Since the Globalsurg3 project did not affect clinical practice and patient outcome, and was classified as a clinical audit by the UK National Health Service (NHS) Research Ethics proportionate review and exempted from formal research registration (South East Scotland Research Ethics Service, reference NR/161AB6). Individual centers obtained their own audit or institutional approval, together with ethical approval as per local regulations. Informed consent was obtained from all participants. The study is reported according to the Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology (STROBE) guidelines.
