: Ethical approval was obtained from the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital Ethical Review Committee before the commencement of this study. The approval is given by the Cross River State Ministry of Health Committee on Ethical approval for all research involving human subjects. The approval no. was CRS/MOH/EAC/ARP/20/038. This approval takes into consideration the World Medical Association (WMA) stance as posited by Helsinki declaration regarding the protection of the patients’ health, the quest for the knowledge of liver cancer and override or trample upon the patients’ fundamental rights, consideration of risks, burdens and benefits and focus on ethics by following local regulatory norms while protecting the patient’s privacy and confidentiality. The informed consent of the patients and their caregivers was sought and obtained prior to their inclusion into study.
