: Ethical approval was sought from the Department of Ophthalmology Makerere University and the School of Medicine Research and Ethics Committee (SOMREC) of Makerere University and administrative clearance from both hospitals. All parents of the participants were informed of the intentions of the research and only those who accepted to sign informed consent form were involved and given the liberty to withdraw from the study as and when they wish to. Patient confidentiality was maintained throughout through restricted access of the patient records. All the study procedures were performed in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki and Uganda National Council of Science and Technology guidelines for human subject research.
