: Ethical clearance was given by the Institutional Research Ethics Review Board, College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Arba Minch University (Ref. AMU/9/31/43). This study was conducted in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki.A signed-up (written) informed consent was obtained from the parents/guardians of each paediatric patient. In addition, assents were also obtained from older paediatric patients (12 to 15 years) before the commencement of the actual collection of data and samples. Participants were guaranteed the right to withdraw from the study by declining the submission of their stool samples, without affecting the medical aid/services received by them. All samples were coded to ensure the confidentiality of participants’ personal information. Finally, results were communicated to their paediatricians and recorded on the medical card of the respective patient.
