: All study procedures followed the Helsinki Declaration. Institutional approval was obtained from Makerere School of Medicine Research and Ethics Committee (SOMREC) and administrative clearance from the three health facilities involved in the study. Written informed consent was sought from the parents or immediate caregivers of the children and assent for those children aged 8 to 9 years. All information collected was treated with confidentiality. Children who were found with SAM were referred for treatment.
