: The study was approved by the Institutional Review Boards of Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR) of the University of Ghana (NMIMR-IRB CPN 011/18–19) and the Committee on Human Research, Publication and Ethics (CHRPE) of the School of Medical Sciences at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Kumasi (CHRPE/RC/192/18). The study also adhered to the Declaration of Helsinki (2024) by protecting the rights of study participants. A written informed parent or legal guardian consent was obtained before the recruitment of any adolescent. Age-appropriate language was used to explain the research to the adolescents and a written assent was obtained.
