: Ethical clearance was obtained from the Research Ethics Committees of Uganda Christian University (UCUREC-2024-777), which is accredited by the Uganda National Council for Science and Technology, and Imperial College London (ICREC-6902241). Before commencing data collection, clearance from the hospital administration was obtained.

: All participants received a full explanation regarding the purpose and procedure of the study and provided individual informed written consents or with witnessed thumbprints for those with low literacy. After the interviews, caregivers were offered time compensation worth 10,000 Ugandan Schilling (»£2).
