: Any adult patient (18 years or older) admitted to our acute psychiatric inpatient unit was informed about the project. Those that wished to have the music option available were included in the project. Verbal informed consent was obtained from participants. Patients who did not want to listen to music or be included in the project were excluded. SUNY Upstate Medical University’s Institutional Review Board (IRB) determined the project does not meet the definition of human subject research under the purview of the IRB, according to federal regulations.
