: ERICA was conducted in accordance with the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki. The Ethics Committee of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro approved the study in January 2009 (opinion 01/2009, process 48/2008). Permission to conduct the study was obtained from all states, local departments of education and schools. All students and their guardians signed an informed consent form.The population data from the IBGE Demographic Census and the criminal record data from PCERJ occurrence reports (application number 4314134877319913615) were obtained in compliance with item II of the sole paragraph of article 1 of Resolution no. 510, of April 7, 2016, of the National Committee of Research Ethics, which provides for the nonobligation of registration or evaluation by an ethics committee for studies that use information that can be accessed by the public.
