Declarations
:
: The study received ethical approval in each country prior to data collection. In Estonia, ethical approval was granted to the Taltech University by the Research Ethics Committee of National Institute of Health Development in Estonia (Protocol #31, Approval #977), in Finland to Aalto University by the Aalto University Research Ethics Committee (Approval #D/957/03.04/2020). In Norway, according to the Norwegian Act on Medical and Health Research § 2 and § 4, the study did not require approval from the regional ethics committee, but the data handling procedure was approved by the Data Protection Officer of the University Hospital of North Norway (Approval #02799). In Sweden ethical approval was granted to Uppsala University by the Ethical Review Authority (Approval #2021–05229). Participation in the survey was voluntary and all respondents were presented with information on the study before providing informed consent to participate. The legislation in Norway states that persons from 16 years of age can consent to participate in research on their own behalf [], while in Finland [] and Sweden [] this age is 15. In Norway, the age limit for accessing PAEHR corresponds to the consent age limit. In Sweden, most gain access to their records at 16, but there is a possibility to apply for earlier access []. Therefore, we asked for participants age as the first question in the survey, and respondents younger than 15 where not able to complete the survey. Two persons under 15 where thus excluded from the Swedish survey. In Finland, the responses of two persons under 15 were deleted. In Estonia, the ethics committee approved that all portal users could consent on their own behalf. Thus, none of the participants in this study required parental or guardian consent to participate. No reimbursement was provided for participation.
