IS has been involved as a hired consultant in the field of addiction medicine (especially concerning medication assisted treatment of opioid use disorder) in the Norwegian Directorate of Health. IS has also participated in a working group under the Norwegian Directorate of Health, as an external professional leader, which prepared a proposal for a revised national guideline for the treatment of opioid use disorder, including opioid agonist treatment. The revised national guideline includes recommendations for treatment of benzodiazepine co-dependence during opioid agonist treatment.
