: Ethics approval was not required for this study, as it was conducted as part of routine activities of the Ministry of Health as part of implementation of SINADEF. As per the Regulation of the Organisation and Functions of the Ministry of Health (ExternalRef removed), page 38, Art.55, the Ministry is permitted to “Perform the analysis, validation and evaluation of the quality of the data in health by monitoring the veracity, timeliness, coverage and accuracy of them”. Further, no identifiable information from the death certificates or the certifiers was collected.
